(www.abcelex.com) is a Canadian biotech company committed to the discovery & development of innovative technologies and feed additive products to prevent or treat microbial contamination in livestock, enabling the cost-effective production of safe, high-quality animal protein and meat products. AbCelex is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

BioZone (dev.biozone.utoronto.ca) is a Centre for Bioscience and Bioengineering Research at the University of Toronto. BioZone has experience with cultivation of different expression systems for large scale recombinant protein production (bioreactors up to 80-L) as well as downstream processing. Additionally, the state-of-the-art facilities at BioZone allow for protein characterization and identification. Researchers from BioZone currently have active collaboration with AbCelex including nanobody production and downstream processing optimization projects.

Job Description:

We are seeking a MITACS industrial Postdoctoral Fellow or graduate student candidate with experience in recombinant protein production and purification to join our antibody-based product development team.

The candidate must possess high degree of innovation, ability to work in a multidisciplinary and fast-paced environment, both independently and in a team setting, and working with diverse cross functional groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and optimization of AbCelex’s recombinant antimicrobial antibody production in small scale bioreactors (5-L fermentation vessels)
  • Scale-up the recombinant antibody production (80-L fermentation vessel)
  • Harvesting the culture and development of downstream processing and protein purification
  • Development of analytical methods for characterization of AbCelex’s recombinant antibodies
  • Analyze data and prepare clear written reports on experimental results and
