NSERC CREATE Open Science Workshop on Open Publishing and Data Sharing

The CREATE for BioZone program hosted an Open Science Workshop on January 21, 2020 that was organized by CREATE trainees Anupama Sharan, Chester Pham, Premy Shanthamoorthy and Kimberly Tok. Over 60 registrants including 37 Highly Qualified Personnel (students and post-doctoral fellows) joined a panel of experts to discuss a range of topics on open publishing and data sharing (theme of the workshop) which included:

  • NSERC CREATE for BioZone; Open Science Workshops (Prof. Emma Master and Prof. Elizabeth Edwards, University of Toronto)
  • Introduction to Open Science; International Trends; Open Science in Canada (Dr. Masha Cemma, Policy Advisor at the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada)
  • Pre-Print Servers and Data Sharing (Prof. Alán Aspuru-Guzik, University of Toronto)
  • Open Research Practices in Publishing (Demitra Ellina, Editorial Community Manager at F1000 in UK)
  • Open Science: Data, Code & FAIR Principles (Prof. Hannes Röst, University of Toronto)
  • Creative Commons and Circular Bioeconomy (Gryph Theriault-Loubier, Canada Chapter Lead)
  • Open Laboratory Notebooks (Mandeep Mann, University of Toronto)

The workshop concluded with a lively panel discussion moderated by Prof. Elizabeth Edwards that provided an opportunity for further discussions with the experts.

Prof. Emma Master introduced the NSERC CREATE for BioZone training program.
